1570 Gallery at Valley Manor Presents: The Genesee Valley Quilt Club

August 17, 2026

The Genesee Valley Quilt Club was formed in 1936 at the request of the Rochester Museum of Arts and Sciences by Gladys Holton and was part of the museum’s Hobby Council. The first meeting had 11 in attendance. Over the years the club has grown to almost 300 members. During the 1940’s quilts, toy and monetary donations were sent to British War Relief, and the Red Cross. Today our Love and Comfort quilts help those in need in our own community, and some are far reaching. We sent quilts to Maui after their tragic Fire and to North Carolina after the flooding and Hurricane. We donate quilts each year and have given 1,600 quilts in the last five years.

Our biennial QuiltFest held at RIT is the largest quilt show in New York State with over 3000 visitors and 600 quilts with 60+ vendors, workshops, classes, lectures and a wearable art fashion show. The club’s motto was “Help One Another”. This remains today. As the oldest continuous quilt guild in New York State and one of the oldest in the country our mission continues to promote quilting through exhibitions and charitable activities in the community.

This show will be open from Monday, August 10 – Sunday September 13, and is open to the public from 10:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.

1570 Gallery is located at 1570 East Avenue, Rochester, NY 14610
