1570 Gallery Presents: “Framed Moments: A Journey Through Lense and Landscape” by Dick Bennet

June 3, 2025

Artist Statement: Dick Bennett

Photography offers me a way to share a part of myself with others. Much of my work focuses on landscapes, wildlife, urban environments, and architecture. There is something deeply engaging about the quiet act of walking with my camera—feeling a sense of communion with my surroundings—and capturing a moment that may later resonate with someone else.

Though I have no formal training, a camera has always been a constant companion—often to the mild exasperation of my family. When my two sons began playing baseball in the late 1990s, I discovered that my experience had been primarily limited to still portraits and natural scenes. Photographing people in motion presented an entirely new challenge.

In response, I invested in a Canon SLR and a set of quality lenses, determined to capture the precise instant when bat met ball. As my skills developed, I began photographing all the players and sharing prints with the other parents—an early reminder of how art can build connection.

With thanks to Valley Manor, I continue to share that spirit through photographs taken in Rochester, the American Southwest, California, and Myanmar. Most of the pieces in this collection are available for purchase, along with a selection of 8×10 matted prints. I invite you to pause, explore, and enjoy the work I’ve curated here.
