How do Senior Living Communities Offer Support and Peace of Mind to Families?

The decision to downsize to a senior living community is never an easy one for seniors and their family members. Although retirement communities specialize in providing quality care for older adults, sometimes it’s hard to avoid feeling overwhelmed by all that goes into this process.

The good news is that moving to a senior living community has several benefits – not just for the residents, but for their caregivers, adult children and family members as well. In this post, we’ll explore a few ways that adult communities offer peace of mind and support for you and your family.

3 Ways Senior Living Can Offer Reassurance for Adult Children

Assistance with the move-in process and easing the transition.

Moving to a new place is challenging, no matter how old you are. Many retirement communities offer services to help ensure a smooth transition for you and your loved one. For example, from the very beginning, compassionate team members at ESLC are here to assist with your loved one’s transition to our community. From personalized tours to moving company recommendations, we go above and beyond to ensure a seamless adjustment for your loved one and your family.

Caregiver support groups offer connection and fellowship for families.

Support groups offer the opportunity to learn from and connect with other adult children and family caregivers who may be facing the same challenges as you are. Especially for families of seniors diagnosed with Alzheimer’s or dementia, these support groups can provide practical advice and information, in addition to helping you develop coping skills and manage your expectations of the disease as it progresses.

Opportunities to be involved and engaged in the community.

At ESLC, we’ve found that it’s important for family members to feel connected and engaged with the people providing care for their loved one. That connectivity and engagement are the most important factors when it comes to offering peace of mind and support to residents’ families. Volunteering in the community is a wonderful way to assist with the transition. Although not required, at Episcopal SeniorLife Communities we encourage family members to participate in several ways:

  • Our volunteer program provides a clear, defined role for you to be active in our community. We have several senior living volunteer opportunities available and we’d love to have you join our team of amazing, dedicated volunteers!
  • We also offer Family Councils that provide a way for you to feel involved with the care of your loved one, and meet other family members who are new to the community as well.
  • Of course, you are welcome to call us anytime, day or night, to check on your loved one. Our staff is more than willing to speak with you 24/7 and provide updates on how well the transition is going.
