1570 Gallery at Valley Manor Presents: “Personal Interpretations”

Dick Kane was born in Rochester, New York where he still lives on the edge of Ellison Park with his wife Rita. As a life-long resident in one of the most picturesque areas of New York State, he is widely known for his paintings of his primary subjects, Rochester and the Finger Lakes Region. The East Coast, Southwest, Vermont and Europe have also provided Dick with inspiration in his travels to paint his interpretations of those subjects. He is a longtime exhibitor at the annual Clothesline Show in September at the Memorial Art Gallery.

Dick is a graduate of Rochester Institute of Technology College of Fine and Applied Arts, where his instructors included Ralph Avery, Alling M. Clements, Stanley H. Witmeyer and Jackie O’Connell. He is greatly inspired by each of them.

Some of  his commissioned works are highly visible as public art, particularly the three hundred fifty square foot landscape mural, A Community Landscape at the Barnes and Noble Bookstore in Pittsford, New York. He has also painted murals for the town of Chili, NY  in their town Senior Center and created original artwork for Starbucks Coffee, with a Rochester theme.

Along with his own painting, Dick has always enjoyed teaching painting, and helping others to progress in their own work. He was a faculty member for many years at the Rochester Memorial Art Gallery Creative Workshop, teaching a variety of painting classes and Docent presentations. Dick has also led many classes for the Yates County Arts Council and Pat Rohrer Gallery in Canandaigua. He is frequently invited to speak to and demonstrate painting for area art associations and schools.  He is a member and a past president of the Rochester Art Club (The second oldest art society in the United States) and The Manhattan Art Group.
