Studio Michaelino presents a retrospective of artwork created during the six years since they first exhibited at “My Sister’s Gallery.” The studio’s artists are a husband-and-wife team of photographers, urban garden enthusiasts and seed-savers. Working together in the garden, Michael Tomb and Marcia Zach photo-capture compositions created in a medium they call “organic collage.” Their palette consists of flowers, herbs, vegetables, foliage, saved seeds, and found items such as weeds, bark, broken pots and pebbles. After arranging their creations on a table in their backyard they take photographs “en plein air”, using only the natural light of day.
Michael and Marcia are inspired by the growing culture of restorative, sustainable, urban gardening. The artists practice organic gardening and choose open-pollinated plant varieties from across the world. They compose imagined fantasies and abstract imagery to illustrate hopes for a future defined by a worldwide sustainable ecotopia. Many of their compositions are symbolic dreams of a time when the diverse needs for earth justice have become reality.
The artists’ passion for all things green and good forms the foundation of their artistic vision. As you discover your own personal interpretations of these photographs, Michael and Marcia hope their love for the natural beauty of this fragile planet connects with your own.
Note: All photographs in this exhibit are also available as unframed prints. Contact the artists at 585-820-8310 or michaelino@gmail.com for more information about unframed prints.
